Brother of Harry Potter Star Jailed for Assaulting Sister

Brother of Harry Potter star jailed for attack after she met non-Muslim man (This is London)

Afshan_azad_harry_potter The brother of a Harry Potter star was jailed for six months today for a "prolonged and nasty" attack in which she was beaten and branded a "slag" for dating a non-Muslim.

Afshan Azad, 21, who played Padma Patil, a classmate of the teenage wizard, in the blockbuster Hollywood films based on JK Rowling's children's books, feared for her life during the three-hour ordeal, Manchester Crown Court heard.

The young actress - now believed to be staying with friends in London - was punched, dragged around by her hair and strangled by her brother Ashraf Azad, 28, who threatened to kill her after he caught her talking on the phone to her Hindu boyfriend on May 21 last year, the court was told.

During the row at the family home in Longsight, Manchester, which also involved her mother and father, she was branded a "slag" and a "prostitute" and told: "Marry a Muslim or you die."

The actress had pleaded for leniency from the court, begging the judge not to jail her older brother.

But Judge Roger Thomas QC sent him to prison for six months after he pleaded guilty to the assault.

"This persistent attack was accompanied by serious and very hurtful abuse and threats," he told the defendant.

"It must have been a miserable and frightening experience for your sister which, she suggested, lasted for about three hours or so.

"The background to this offence lies in the concern that you, and perhaps other family members, had about Afshan's relationship with a young man who was not of the Islamic faith."

Judge Thomas added: "This is a sentence that is designed to punish you for what you did and also to send out a clear message to others that domestic violence involving circumstances such as have arisen here cannot be tolerated."

UK Muslims Now Threaten Failed Honor Killers

There have been myriad news reports of late that the badly beaten Afshan Azad (Muslim star of the Harry Potter movie) wanted to retract the honor killing charges against her father and her brother (who attempted to kill her for dating a non-Muslim young man). The thing is, the "retraction" did not come from her or her lawyer. The source is her would-be paternal and fraternal killers. They are would-be murderers for Islam, so what's a lie -- it's righteous, right?

Attorney John Wolfson, who is defending the pair, insists that Afshan has tried to retract her statement, regretting the outcome of the investigation. He states that she never wanted for her father and brother to be arrested.

Their spin is that "she tried on three occasions to retract her statement and has pleaded with the Crown Prosecution Service not to arrest" them. Is that so? So why was the restraining order against them issued after the arrest? And why are they prohibited from traveling to London, where she is staying? It is still unsafe for her there. She is not only a target for her family, but she is seen as an enemy of the Muslim community. After the father and brother were arrested, they expressed fear of reprisals from the Muslim community for failing to uphold their "family honor." Here is that admission.

Speaking at the family’s semi-detached home, her brother Ashraf, a customer services adviser, said: ‘We are going to get trouble from the community now. It is bad news for our safety, her safety.

‘My younger brother is going to get harassed at college. All our family is going to be harassed by the community because of this.

What's most galling is how the media and various columnists took it on its face without so much as a cursory inquiry. This young woman needs protection, real protection. Instead, the media is working to protect her attempted killers in the name of Islam.

Much thanks to Da Vinci, who tracked down the real story.

Harry Potter Lies About “Honor Killing”

Tragically, a lie is circulating the Net like wildfire that the Harry Potter actress, Afshan Azad, has tried 'three times' to retract her statement to the police wherein she accused her father and brother of trying to murder her (for seeing a Hindu man). In reality, however, Ms. Azad has said no such thing. It is instead John Wolfson, the attorney for the father and brother, who's giving this lie to the press. Here is the revealing text.

"But lawyer John Wolfson, who is defending the father and son, insists the actress is already regretting her statement, and has tried to retract it through the Crown Prosecution Service three times.

He tells the Daily Express, "This is a desperately sad situation and she has never wanted her father and brother to be locked up. She has tried on three occasions to retract her statement and has pleaded with the Crown Prosecution Service not to proceed.

"I sincerely hope for the family's sake that this can be quickly and happily resolved. My client and his father have already denied the charges and will maintain that plea."

This trick by Wolfson is the oldest (and dirtiest) trick in the legal world - a lawyer trying to save his clients by destroying the veracity of the accuser. We saw its infamous practice in the O.J. Simpson trial when Simpson's lawyers destroyed the truthful testimony of LAPD detective Mark Fuhrman (testimony which could have put Simpson in jail for life) by accusing Fuhrman of being a racist. Mr. Wolfson is simply trying a different version of the same ugly tactic.

Suspicions about his statement, however, should have been raised by the fact that there is NO video, photo, tape, recording, etc., of Ms. Azad saying this herself - it's only Wolfson claiming she said this. (Rule of thumb: if you didn't hear someone say it, it means they didn't.) Note also that the Crown Prosecution Service is not corroborating this lie. Had Ms. Azad actually approached them '3 times' to retract her statement, there would be a report to this effect. The fact that the police do not admit to any such report makes it clear that no report exists - i.e., Ms. Azad never approached them '3 times' (or even once) to retract her statement. Finally, this lie by the lawyer is proven as such by the fact that Ms. Azad is still hiding out in London in fear of her life. That clearly proves that, far from regretting her charges against her father and brother, she clearly understands that her family will kill her again if they have the chance (and she's not giving it to them).

It's not surprising that so many have been duped into believing the lawyer's lie. I would have believed it myself - had it not been for the fact that I've been a legal secretary for a quarter century. Trust me, there's a reason for the joke: "How do you know a lawyer's lying? His lips are moving." Again, as I've said, this ploy by the attorney for the accused is the oldest (and dirtiest) trick in the legal world.

Nice try, Mr. Wolfson - but it isn't going to work.

Father and Brother Don't Know Honor Killing is Wrong

Da Vinci sent this outrageous update to the attempted Islamic honor killing of the Muslim actress in the Harry Potter films. How much more in the mainstream can you get? Despite who she is, the celebrity of the victim, still the dhimmedia shills, aids, abets, and covers for islamic misogyny. In addition to the Daily Mail's inhumanity in speaking of the religious motivation of this gender apartheid, more galling and proof of this Islamic practice is the family's concern, not with their Afshan, but with"what the Muslim community will think." This is their only worry and obsession:

The Muslim actress who plays 'Padma' in the Harry Potter films has fled her home in Manchester, England after her father and brother tried to kill her. The father and brother have since been charged with attempted murder (with the brother also being charged with physically assaulting his sister); both were jailed. In the meantime, the young girl, Afshan Azad, 22, has fled to London to stay with friends. She's going to need some hiding because both the father and brother have now been released on bail. It's clear that the police recognize the girl's life is in grave danger because the police put restrictions on the bail. "As part of their bail conditions, (the father and brother) have to abide by an 11pm to 6am curfew and must not travel to London or contact an unnamed man."

That last part - 'contact an unnamed man' gives the grisly clue to what triggered the murderous rage of the father and brother. The 'unnamed man' is clearly someone whom the young actress had been seeing. As a result of her association, the father and brother tried to kill her. In short, this was an attempted Muslim 'honor killing'.

Read the whole thing at The Daily Mail

But the Daily Mail flatly refuses to state this obvious fact. You can read their article from top to bottom but not a single word of it identifies the father and brother's murderous attack for what it is -- an attempted honor killing. It gets worse -- the Daily Mail won't even identify the father and brother as Muslim. Why? It's because the Daily Mail, like the media worldwide, quakes in cowardly fear of offending the "religion of peace." Even when that religion orders a father to mercilessly slaughter his own child -- as happened in this grisly case -- the Daily Mail still won't print the truth about the Muslim faith.

It's painfully clear that wherever that wretched young girl is hiding, she has only to read this article to realize she can expect absolutely no support from the media. And she certainly can't look to her Muslim family for help. The Daily Mail managed to talk with the murderous brother, Ashraf, after he returned to the family's home in Manchester following his stint in jail. Here are his thoughts about trying to kill his sister.

Yes, you read it right. He's not bothered one bit about having tried to murder his own sister -- instead, his only concern is "'what will the neighbors think?" Well, I know what I'm thinking. The "religion of peace" is going to keep killing and keep killing until it is confronted. But as long as the media and the Daily Mail flatly refuse to do that, than countless other terrified young women will be forced to flee from their murderous families. This young 'Harry Potter' actress managed to escape with her life -- don't count on the other young women being that lucky.

Attempted Honor Killing of Harry Potter Actress

The father and brother attempted to kill movie star Afshan Azad in an honor killing. No media would speak of it ............until now. CNN dares.

Relatives of Harry Potter actress charged in attack CNN (hat tip Kamala)

The father and brother of a Harry Potter actress will appear in court later this month in Manchester, England, on charges of threatening to kill the young star, prosecutors said Afshan Friday.

Abdul Azad, 54, and his son Ashraf, 28, are accused of attacking actress Afshan Azad earlier this month because of her relationship with a Hindu man, a spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said. The family is Muslim.

The father and brother appeared at Manchester Magistrate's Court on Wednesday and were released on conditional bail, said the spokesman, who could not be named in line with policy.

Bail conditions include a curfew and ban on traveling to London, the Manchester Evening News reported.

Afshan Azad, reported to be 22, has appeared in four Harry Potter films as Padma Patil, a classmate of the boy wizard and twin sister of Parvati Patil.

The alleged attack happened May 21. The father and brother are charged with threatening to kill the actress, and her brother is also charged with assault, the prosecutors' spokesman said.

Afshan Azad had never acted before she was cast in the movies, and admitted she only went to the auditions with her friends "for a bit of fun," the Manchester Evening News reported.
