At Least Ten NYC Synagogues Threatened for New Year's

Jan 1 2011
Manhattan, NY - frightening letter was sent to an Upper West Side synagogue threatening to blow it up on New Year's Eve, (as first reported on Vos Iz Neias), -- and the rabbi there says as many as a dozen other local synagogues received similar sinister missives...

The note was discovered at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Congregation Ohab Zedek synagogue on 95th Street near Columbus Avenue, said Rabbi Allen Schwartz.

“We have reasons to believe someone wants to spread fear,” Schwartz told The Post.

“It was a letter sent to 10 or 12 [other] synagogues,” he added.

He declined to elaborate, citing a police investigation.

One wonders what it said, eh? Or what language it was written in? Who they are protecting?

The bomb threat to Ohab Zedek was made the same day a report was released by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services showing that hate crimes across the state had jumped 14 percent in 2009.

In the city, hate crimes rose 6 percent in the same period, with Manhattan having the second-highest number of incidents at 70.

Look at those stats:

Fredric U. Dicker for the New York Post, December 31 (thanks to Ken):

ALBANY -- Hate crimes across New York state jumped 14 percent in 2009, led by an increase in attacks on Jews and Jewish institutions, state records released yesterday show.

There were 683 hate crimes reported to police authorities across the state in 2009 compared with 599 in 2008, according to a report released by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services. [...]

Anti-Semitic incidents, which made up 37 percent of the reported hate crimes, were up 15 percent in one year, from 219 in 2008 to 251 in 2009. [...]

Crimes motivated by anti-Muslim sentiment rose from eight to 11....

Synagogues Twinning with Mosques not an Answer

Synagogues/Mosques Twinning: It takes a special kind of Jewpidity

"Jews, remember Khaybar"

Khay-bar-Khaybar ya Yahud, Jaysh Muhammad sa ya'ud! ("Khaybar, Khaybar, you Jews, Mohammad's army is about to return.")

The 1,400 year old death chant that the ummah still scream/sings to this day.

Jewicidal leaders are submitting to a "twinning" events project between synagogues and mosques, while wrestling with the twisted and self-destructive reality that they are discussing interfaith values with the same people who 'participate in virulently anti-Israel rallies.'"

And this is part of a national effort to forge better ties between Jews and Muslims. That is a dishonest assessment of the situation. The Jews have no problem with anyone; just let them live. Period. Islamic antisemitism is mandated. It is a pillar of Islamic teaching. Jihad wants to annihilate the Jews. If you "fix that problem," everything will lovely.

I am reading Sir Martin Gilbert's In Ishmael's House: A History of Jews in Muslim Lands, and as much as I know about Islamic anti-semitism, this historical tome is tough to take, even for me. So when I see this jewicidal assahattery, it boggles the mind. Far be it from me to speak for Hashem, but he ain't pleased.

"Interfaith values" project between synagogues and mosques in Buffalo area hits snag over sponsors' ties to Muslim Brotherhood Jihadwatch

A Jewish leader quoted below ably articulates the reason for reservations about the "twinning" project, explaining that "he and other Jews struggle over what extent they can discuss interfaith values with people who 'are on one side promoting peace and on the other side participating in virulently anti-Israel rallies'."

There is ample reason for alarm well beyond the participation by affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood-linked ISNA in one rally or another. The fundamental causes for concern are the imperative in Islamic law to subjugate unbelievers under its sway, and the fevered pitch of antisemitism found in the Qur'an itself. And the Qur'an's grievance is with the Jews for being Jews, and not, of course, over the Jewish state founded almost one and a half millennia later.

The Muslim Brotherhood itself describes its agenda in America as "a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and 'sabotaging' its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and Allah's religion is made victorious over all other religions."

That is the Brotherhood's ultimate "interfaith initiative." This sort of thing tends to cast suspicion on other, ostensibly friendlier projects. "Muslim-Jewish outreach effort contracts following allegations," by Jay Tokasz for the Buffalo News, November 11 (thanks to Mark):

A national effort to forge better ties between Jews and Muslims has run into opposition from some Jewish community members who view the interfaith partnerships as a ruse perpetrated by radical Muslims.

An undercurrent to the "twinning" events in mosques and synagogues has had a significant impact in Western New York, where two rabbis who participated in last year's local twinning weekend have since distanced themselves from the effort.

But organizers here said the local tensions stemmed from entrenched disagreement over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and were symptomatic of the need for greater dialogue between Muslims and Jews.

Organizers put together more events for this year, including an interfaith scripture study session on Tuesday evening and a planned visit Friday to the Sufi World Foundation mosque in Orleans County.

"Good will and positive things will win out, and people will see what we're doing and become more comfortable with it," said Rabbi Drorah Setel of Temple Beth El in Niagara Falls, the lone local rabbi onboard with this year's twinning effort.

Rabbi Irwin A. Tanenbaum of Temple Beth Am and Rabbi Alex Lazarus-Klein of Temple Sinai, both in Amherst, had participated with Setel in the twinning last November but withdrew their support this year.

"I'm only saddened that it's become impossible to be involved," Tanenbaum said, declining further comment on the matter.

While it is "in the best interests of the Muslim and Jewish communities to work together," the twinning program was no long-er the appropriate vehicle for it, said Lazarus-Klein, citing concerns about the national organization of the effort.

Twinning was started in 2008 by a group called the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, in cooperation with the Islamic Society of North America, a controversial national organization that, over its objections, has been linked by federal prosecutors to an international Muslim organization accused of promoting Islamic fundamentalism.

In its court case against the Holy Land Foundation, an Islamic charity accused of funneling funds to terrorist groups, federal prosecutors linked ISNA with the Muslim Brotherhood, a worldwide network considered by many Jewish groups to be stridently anti-Israel.

ISNA leaders have vehemently denied any connection to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Lazarus-Klein said he believes the local twinning organizers are well-intentioned.

But he and other Jews struggle over what extent they can discuss interfaith values with people who "are on one side promoting peace and on the other side participating in virulently anti-Israel rallies."...

Explosives Bound for Chicago Synagogues

Explosive packages bound for Chicago synagogues

Terror alert: suspicious devices 'dry run' for terror campaign against US

A series of suspicious packages found in Britain and Dubai could have been part of a “dry run” by al-Qaeda for a mail bomb plot in the United States, authorities believe.

The packages were found on an American-registered cargo plane at East Midlands airport in England, en route from Yemen to Chicago, via Cologne in Germany, and on aircraft in Dubai which had also come from Yemen.

It was claimed the devices were destined for synagogues in Chicago.

Jewish organisations and synagogues in Britain said they were already on high alert.

Scotland Yard said the package found in Britain was removed for further testing. It was claimed it contained a toner cartridge for a printer, covered in white powder and with wires protruding from it.

It was found at East Midlands, one of Britain's biggest cargo hubs, during screening of cargo at the airport. It was claimed that security sources in the Middle East had tipped off the intelligence services about packages emanating from Yemen, now regarded as one of the hot-beds of al-Qaeda terrorist activities.

"We know that these packages originated in Yemen and we are looking into potential links to terrorism," said one U.S. official.

As a result of the terror alert, the US Department of Homeland Security increased aviation security measures.

Fedex, the world’s largest cargo airline, confirmed that the suspicious package seized at its Dubai facility originated in Yemen. It had stopped all shipments, originating from Yemen, a spokesman added.

Officials were also investigating reports of several packages on aircraft in the eastern United States cities of Philadelphia and Newark, New Jersey although nothing had yet been found. The FBI said it did not believe an attack was imminent, a spokesman said.

Barack Obama, the US President, was told late on Thursday night of a "potential terrorist threat" surrounding suspicious packages on the aircraft, the White House said.

"Intelligence and law enforcement agencies discovered potential suspicious packages on two planes in transit to the United States," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

"Authorities were able to identify and examine two suspicious packages, one in East Midlands and one in Dubai. Both of these packages originated from Yemen."

Mr Gibbs said that, as a precaution, extra security measures were taken regarding other cargo planes at Newark and Philadelphia international airports in the United States.

"The President was notified of a potential terrorist threat on Thursday night at 10:35, by John Brennan, assistant to the president for homeland security and counter-terrorism," he said.

Synagogues were targeted. Why have the Jews been a favored target for over a millenium of Islamic attacks, wars and cultural annihilations?

Four Muslims Convicted Bombing Synagogues & Firing Missiles

Back in 2009 (here at Atlas), four Muslims were arrested for plotting to shoot down military jets with Stinger missiles. American-born jailhouse converts to Islam hell bent on blowing up two Bronx synagogues and shooting down a military plane had been arrested following a massive, year-long investigation, sources told the NY Post.

The charges, which include conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction in the United States and conspiracy to acquire and use anti-aircraft missiles, represent some of the most significant allegations of domestic terrorism. Mr. Cromitie is said to have told an F.B.I. informer that he had ties with Jaish-e-Muhammad, a jihadist group based in Pakistan.

Today these devout Muslims were convicted:

NEW YORK — Four New York men on Monday were convicted of plotting to blow up synagogues and shoot down US military aircraft after a trial hinging on the testimony of a paid FBI informant, the federal prosecutor's office said.

James Cromitie, 44, and three others had been accused of wanting to wage Muslim jihad in their own country, attacking the Jewish house of worship and a Jewish community center in the Bronx, and firing Stinger missiles at planes at a nearby Air National Guard base.

They face sentences of up to life in prison.

"Homegrown terrorism is a serious threat," Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara said.

"The defendants in this case agreed to plant bombs and use missiles they thought were very real weapons of terrorism. We are safer today as a result of these convictions."

The jury in Manhattan federal court took a week to reach the verdict following a trial in which the court heard how an FBI informant lured the four men deeper and deeper into an extended sting operation.

Cromitie, David Williams, 29, Onta Williams, 34, and Laguerre Payen, 29, were arrested on May 20, 2009 in a dramatic scene when they had just planted what they believed to be explosives at their targets.

The bombs were duds and the gang, which was taped expressing anger at Jews in general and at the US-led war in Afghanistan, was under surveillance throughout.

Anger at Jews? It's in the qu'ran. It's why they despise Israel.
