Twitter Trial

After this week’s ‘Twitter trial’, in which a court upheld a man’s criminal conviction for joking about ‘blowing the airport sky high’ in a tweet, this email will remain a resolutely joke-free zone. I would hate to be in a position where some ill-informed judge could describe an ironic aside in this missive as ‘menacing in its content and obviously so’ before dishing out a £1,000 fine. At a time when the War on Terror is taken deadly seriously and free speech is regarded as dispensable, we can rest assured that we live in a free country. Like I said, no irony here, m’lud.
